Ghost Band

The Fresh Beats travel to a ghost town (literally) for a new gig, and there's a ghost band that's trying to scare them out of town. The Fresh Beats don't believe that there are real ghosts in this town until they end up learning it the hard way by being locked in jail. Will this ghost band scare the Fresh Beats out of town? Or can the Fresh Beats perform their gig?

Plot

The Fresh Beats are having pizza when they get a letter that tells them that they have a gig outside of town! The Fresh Beats are excited. Harper makes their pizza to go, and the Fresh Beats go pack their car to journey to this town.

But when the Fresh Beats get to the town, they notice how it looks. Marina begins to feel like she'd driven to the wrong town. "Guys, does this look like the kind of town we're supposed to play our show in?" asks Marina. The town is all dried up and dusty. It's an old western town. The Fresh Beats are greeted by town mayor Henry. Suddenly they see musicians running off because there are ghosts in the town. Henry is devastated that the Fresh Beats know about it. But the Fresh Beats don't believe that there are ghosts in this town, and Kiki tells Henry that there are no such things as ghosts. Henry is glad that the Fresh Beats feel that way but asks them to explain why the horshoe is floating. The Fresh Beats assume that it's only the wind. The Fresh Beats go off and get ready for their gig.

The Fresh Beats get dressed into their western outfits and go to a cazebo-stage, where there are already the instruments they need: a piano, a harmonica, a fiddle, and a drumset. That's everything they need to play country music. But then they notice that the piano is playing by itself. Do you think it could be the ghosts? No, the Fresh Beats are sure there's a good reason for that. Shout opens the piano and discovers that it's just a mouse, thinking that the mystery is solved. But as they go off to tell Henry they're ready for their concert, a ghost band appears! They're trying to scare the Fresh Beats away. Uh-oh. The Fresh Beats better be careful!

The Fresh Beats investigate the town. It's empty and quiet. Could this be a ghost town? No, of course not, the Fresh Beats think. Then the ghosts (invisible) throw lemon pies at Twist and Shout. Marina thinks somebody is just playing a trick on them. Before she knows it, a ghost appears and showers her with flour. Kiki angrily tells this prankster that they're not very nice but admits that they have good aim when the ghost pours flour on her (making Marina dirtier). The Fresh Beats take refuge and get smoothies as they get cleaned up from the pies and the flour. The server is surprised that the Fresh Beats are really not afraid of the ghosts in the town. They tell her that there are no such things as ghosts and they can explain all the strange things happening in this empty western town. Before they know it, their smoothies mysteriously fly off. When they catch the smoothies, the ghosts lock them up in prison. It turns out that Henry was right. The town does have ghosts. The ghosts confess that they couldn't scare them off, and they rudely laugh as they tell them to try and play their concert. Twist thinks of a random idea to get out of the prison. Marina thinks they should sit down calmly and drink their smoothies. But then she gets so scared that she starts panicking, and Twist and Kiki calm her down just as Henry comes in to rescue the Fresh Beats. When the Fresh Beats are rescued from the prison, the Fresh Beats say that they'll stop the ghosts from scaring music out of town 'cause they're unstoppable!

As the Fresh Beats sing We're Unstoppable, they encounter what the Ghost Band is up to. One ghost steals Shout's hat. Another takes a set of drumsticks away from Marina. Another steals Kiki's fiddle bow. Then the Ghosts push Twist around.

After the song, the Fresh Beats dare the Ghosts to come up and say that they're going to do their concert and bring music back to town. "You're not going to scare us anymore!" shouts Marina. But as the Ghosts appear, the Fresh Beats are scared. The Ghosts tell the Fresh Beats that this town isn't big enough for two bands, so they challenge them to a showdown. The Fresh Beats accept this challenge and tell them to be around at high noon. When the Ghosts disappear, the Fresh Beats admit that the Ghosts scared them.

The Fresh Beats meet up with the Ghost Band for the showdown. The losing band has to leave town. Kiki and the ghostly violinist compete in the violin. Shout and the harmonica-playing ghost compete on the harmonica. And Marina and the female ghost compete in tap dancing. It's a tie for all three of them, but there's one thing the ghosts can't do: beatbox. So the Fresh Beats win!

But just as the ghosts are getting ready to leave town, the Fresh Beats realize that the ghosts are misunderstood. The Ghost Band was the only band that ever played on the stage. They played their first concert in the town 183 years ago. They scare off every musician/band that comes to town because they want to keep playing. Marina asks why they don't play music for the town, and they admit that they've been too busy scaring away every band that Henry kept hiring. The Ghost Band promise to stop scaring away the other bands, and Henry promises to stop trying to replace the Ghost Band. So the Fresh Beats and the Ghost Band decide to play the concert, but there are only two people and a donkey. It looks like the Ghost Band not only scared away all the other bands but they also scared away the whole town. So the Fresh Beats help them bring everyone back. "All this town needs is a Fresh Start," says Marina.

Trivia

  • When the camera is at Marina's feet while she's tap dancing with the female ghost, she (Marina) is seen wearing different tap shoes instead of the ones she wore in Quack Shoes. She probably got a new pair.
  • The song Here We Go is shortened in this episode.
  • Dioni Michelle Collins was credited as Melody even though Melody herself didn't exactly appear in this episode, but Collins did appear as a citizen in the ghost town.
  • Shane Blades played two characters in this episode: Harper and Henry, town mayor. But Blades was only credited as Harper.
